“20/Happy in 2020” is a comprehensive ASCRS master class in refractive cataract surgery. During our training, we all focused on cataract surgical skills. Today, however, we must wear a second hat—that of refractive surgeons—because the majority of our cataract patients are interested in, desire, or expect to reduce their dependence on spectacles.
This ASCRS master class debuts a unique virtual format and a comprehensive curriculum through which attendees can improve all dimensions of their refractive IOL surgical practice. Nine interrelated CME modules cover preoperative diagnostics, IOL calculations, IOL design, patient selection, education, and counseling, and how to efficiently and effectively manage these prerequisites within a busy practice. Significant course and discussion time will be spent on complex cases, managing complications and patient dissatisfaction, and navigating the logistical and business aspects of a refractive cataract practice.
We have assembled 80 leading international faculty who will share their best pearls for surgical and refractive success through lectures, audience Q&A, and live panel discussion. We draw heavily from the ASCRS Cataract, Refractive Surgery, and Young Eye Surgeons Clinical Committees, which are chaired by Kevin Miller, MD, Vance Thompson, MD, and Sumit “Sam” Garg, MD, respectively.
Improved IOL designs and adjunctive technologies are providing better refractive outcomes than ever. “20/Happy in 2020” will help ophthalmologists to keep abreast of all the latest advances. Live corporate sponsored, non-CME programs will provide the opportunity to hear and learn from clinicians that are experienced with specific new IOLs and products, and these will complement the CME symposia. Web-based recordings of every session will provide attendees with a valuable reference resource.
Amidst the practice challenges and uncertainty of the COVID pandemic, we hope that this all-virtual master class will help ophthalmologists to refocus on expanding their refractive cataract surgical knowledge and skillset. Our goal is to provide you with the tools to better master the art and the science of achieving patient satisfaction with refractive IOLs.
